How to become an AI engineer in Pakistan

An AI engineer builds features on top of existing AI models: a chatbot that answers from a company's own documents, a tool that sorts incoming emails, a system that drafts replies for a human to check. The job is less about inventing new models and more about making existing ones useful, reliable and safe.

Here is the route we teach, in the order the skills build on each other. Each step names the free course to start with and the programme that goes deeper.

What the work pays: the entry figure we sourced is Rs 50,000 to Rs 80,000 a month in Lahore, read on 30 September 2026. Source More on AI careers in Pakistan.

The route, step by step

Step 1: Programming

Everything else is built in Python, so this comes first. Learn to write small programs, read other people's code, and keep your work in Git so you can show it.

Skills: Python, Pandas & NumPy, Git & Version Control.

Start free: Python for Beginners, Git and GitHub Basics, Pandas and NumPy

Go deeper: Machine Learning, Python Programming

Step 2: Data

Models are only as good as the data you give them. Learn to clean, reshape and check data before it goes anywhere near a model.

Skills: Data Preparation.

Start free: Data Cleaning, Machine Learning Fundamentals

Go deeper: Machine Learning

Step 3: Models

You do not need to train large models, but you do need to understand how they learn and how to tell whether one is doing its job. This is where you learn to measure results instead of trusting them.

Skills: Machine Learning, Model Evaluation.

Start free: AI Fundamentals

Go deeper: Machine Learning, Applied LLM Engineering

Step 4: Generative

Learn to write prompts that give consistent answers, to use the main generative AI tools well, and to think about where AI should not be used or must be disclosed.

Skills: Prompt Engineering, Generative AI Tools, AI Ethics.

Start free: Prompt Engineering, LLM Engineering Basics, AI Ethics, Disclosure and Safety

Go deeper: Artificial Intelligence, Applied LLM Engineering

Step 5: Shipping

A feature nobody can call is not a feature. Learn to connect a model to an application through an API, so your work runs inside real software.

Skills: API Integration.

Start free: APIs

Go deeper: Applied LLM Engineering

Questions

How long does it take to become an AI engineer?

It depends on where you start and how many hours you put in each week. Someone who already programs moves faster through the first stage. We do not promise a timeframe, because it is honestly different for every learner.

What should I build for my portfolio?

Something small and real: a document question-answering tool, an email sorter, a summariser for a type of report you know. Show the code, a short write-up and how you checked the results.

How this route was put together: Assembled from the published BvLogic curricula and, where a course is mapped to a NAVTTC national standard, from that standard's own competency list. It is not employer research: no employer in the pipeline has been researched for skill demand yet, and until that happens this list says what we teach a junior to do, not what a named company has told us it wants.
