AI career roadmap

AI careers are not one job. This roadmap sets out three roles in the order most people can reach them: automation first, because it gives results quickly; AI engineering next, building AI into software; and machine learning, training and judging models, for those who want to go deepest.

You do not have to climb all three. Each stage is a real job on its own, and each one names the free course to start with.

What the work pays: the entry figure we sourced is Rs 50,000 to Rs 80,000 a month in Lahore, read on 30 September 2026. Source More on AI careers in Pakistan.

The roadmap, stage by stage

Step 1: AI automation specialist

Start by removing repetitive work. Connect the tools a business already uses, add AI where it saves time, and show the hours saved.

Skills: Python, Data Handling, REST APIs, API Integration, Workflow Automation, n8n, Automation Scripting, Prompt Engineering, Generative AI Tools, AI Ethics, Business Process Automation, Client Communication.

Start free: Automation, Zapier and Make, n8n Automation

Go deeper: Artificial Intelligence, AI Automation & n8n

Step 2: AI engineer

Next, build AI features into real software: prompts that behave consistently, models connected through APIs, and results you have measured.

Skills: Python, Pandas & NumPy, Git & Version Control, Data Preparation, Machine Learning, Model Evaluation, Prompt Engineering, Generative AI Tools, AI Ethics, API Integration.

Start free: APIs, Python for Beginners, Prompt Engineering

Go deeper: Machine Learning, Applied LLM Engineering

Step 3: Machine learning engineer

At the deepest stage you train and evaluate models on real data, which needs stronger data skills and some statistics.

Skills: Python, Git & Version Control, Pandas & NumPy, Data Preparation, SQL, Machine Learning, Statistical Analysis, Model Evaluation, Data Visualisation.

Start free: AI Fundamentals, Machine Learning Fundamentals, Pandas and NumPy

Go deeper: Machine Learning, Applied LLM Engineering

Questions

Which stage should I start at?

If you do not program yet, start with automation. If you already know Python, you can begin at AI engineering.

Is AI going to replace these jobs?

The tasks change quickly, which is why the roadmap focuses on skills that carry over: programming, handling data, judging results and knowing when not to use AI.

How this route was put together: Assembled from the published BvLogic curricula and, where a course is mapped to a NAVTTC national standard, from that standard's own competency list. It is not employer research: no employer in the pipeline has been researched for skill demand yet, and until that happens this list says what we teach a junior to do, not what a named company has told us it wants.
