What the 6 lessons cover
- Why most presentations fail. Plan on paper before opening PowerPoint: who is in the room, the one thing they must take away, and what you want them to do.
- Slides that work. One idea per slide, headlines that state the finding, six words rather than sixty, full sentences in the speaker notes, and 24-point text with strong contrast.
- Delivering it. Rehearse aloud three times, know your opening two sentences by heart, speak slower than feels natural, pause, and face the audience instead of the screen.
- Presenting numbers and difficult messages. One simplified chart per slide with the finding as its title, bar charts from zero, like-for-like comparisons, and a clear statement of what a number does not show.
- PowerPoint's useful features. Slide Master, Presenter View, sections, alignment tools, the eyedropper and picture compression.
- Presenting as a career skill. Presenting decides how much of your other work is seen. Improve by volunteering to present repeatedly and by recording yourself.
