Network Security Basics
How attacks actually happen and how they are stopped — named by 4 of the 100 researched employers, and the defensive half of the Cyber Security pathway.
That was a one-minute preview. The full course video is for signed-in learners. Sign in to watch it here — or create a free BvLogic ID; it takes a minute, and this course is added to it.
What you'll be able to do
- Understand what an attacker actually wants, why most breaches are unglamorous, and what defending means in practice.
- Recognise phishing, credential attacks, malware and ransomware in their real Pakistani forms.
- Apply the small set of network controls that stop most attacks — segmentation, least privilege, patching and MFA.
- Understand detection — what to log, what to watch for, and why most breaches are discovered far too late.
- Build the staff practices that stop social attacks, and know Pakistan's legal duties around data and incidents.
- See the real Pakistani security job market, choose a starting direction, and know what the paid course adds.

- Office IT staff and small business owners in Pakistan responsible for a network nobody has secured.
- Learners with networking or CCNA basics heading towards security work.
- Anyone considering the paid Cyber Security course.
What the 6 lessons cover
- Think like a defender. Most breaches come through four boring routes: a guessed or reused password, an unpatched system, a tricked person and a service left open. Defence has a shape: know what you have, reduce exposure, patch, watch, and be able to recover.
- The attacks you will actually meet. Phishing (including fake bank SMS and WhatsApp code requests), business email compromise, password spraying and credential stuffing, malware from cracked software, ransomware and social engineering. Payment instructions are confirmed on a known phone number.
- Hardening a network: the controls that carry the weight. Five controls carry the weight: multi-factor authentication on email first, patching, least privilege, segmentation such as a separate guest Wi-Fi, and nothing exposed that does not need to be, such as remote desktop or default CCTV passwords.
- Watching: logs, monitoring and knowing you were breached. Log sign-ins, failed attempts, admin actions and edge traffic, keep logs off the machine, test the alert path end to end, and respond in four steps: contain, assess, eradicate and recover, learn.
- The human layer and the law. Specific rules, rewarding reports and simulated phishing work better than lectures, and punishing a click hides the next one. PECA 2016 makes testing a system without written permission a crime.
- The security career from here. Security is rarely a first job: most people arrive from IT support, networking or development. Practise in a home lab, audit a real small office, and write up what you fixed.
Using this in Pakistan
- Indeed's range for security analysts in Pakistan is Rs 31,834 to 112,351 a month, based on only three reported salaries, so treat it as a rough guide. Source
- Entry security roles advertised in September 2026 were in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi rather than Faisalabad; even a Lahore SOC L1 internship required a Wazuh certification. Source
