Email Marketing · Lesson 1 of 5

The audience nobody can take away

Understand why this old channel still matters.

Every social platform controls your access to your own audience. Reach falls, rules change, an account gets restricted, and whatever you built is gone or diminished overnight. It happens regularly and there is no appeal that works.

An email list is yours. You can export it, move it to another provider, and reach the people on it without paying for permission. That is the entire argument, and it is enough.

Email still outperforms most channels on return for businesses that use it properly, because it reaches people who explicitly asked to hear from you.

Where it works well in Pakistan. Business to business, where email is the professional norm. Education and courses. Anything with a considered purchase and a long decision. International clients, where it is the default.

Where it works less well. Local consumer retail, where WhatsApp is genuinely stronger and open rates are higher. Be honest about which you are, and do not build an email programme for an audience that does not read email.

The three things you need. Permission, meaning people chose to receive this. Something worth sending. And consistency, because an email every eight months to a list that has forgotten you produces complaints rather than sales.

Start collecting now even if you are not sending yet. The list is the asset, and the commonest regret of businesses here is having spent three years building followers on a platform and having no way to contact any of them.

Lab — try it yourself

Count how many customer email addresses you actually hold and can legitimately contact. For most businesses the number is a surprise.
