Setting up a shop that can actually sell
Get the settings right before adding products.
WooCommerce turns WordPress into a shop. The installation is a few clicks and the settings are where shops go wrong, so do these first.
Currency and country. Set PKR and Pakistan. Decide how prices display: whether tax is included, and how many decimals. Most Pakistani shops show whole rupees, and leaving two decimals makes every price look like an import.
Addresses. The default checkout asks for fields designed elsewhere. Remove what you do not need and make sure city and province suit your market. Every unnecessary field costs completions.
Shipping is the decision that matters most. Three workable models: a flat rate per order, free shipping above a threshold, or zones with different rates for Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and the rest. Set up zones properly, because shipping surprises at checkout are the largest single cause of abandonment. Decide your policy first and then configure it, rather than configuring and hoping.
Payments. Cash on delivery is still the majority of orders in Pakistan and should be enabled, with an honest note about your refusal policy. Bank transfer with instructions works and requires manual reconciliation. Card and wallet gateways need a merchant account, which takes documentation and time, so start that process early because it will not be ready on launch day.
Emails. Test every one: order received, processing, completed, refunded. They go to spam more often than people expect, so check with a real Gmail address rather than assuming.
Configure shipping zones for your real delivery areas, then place a test order to each and confirm the charge is what you intended.
