How Fiverr differs from Upwork

On Upwork you apply for jobs. On Fiverr you list a product and buyers come to you. That difference decides everything about how you should work.

You are running a listing, not an application process. Your gig is found through search, so it has to be optimised like a product listing: title, keywords, images, price, description.

Buyers here often want something defined and fast. A logo, a video edit, a translated document, a fixed WordPress problem. Open ended consulting sells poorly.

Packages matter. Basic, standard and premium. Most buyers choose the middle one, which is why the basic package should be a genuine but limited option rather than your real offer.

Reviews and the level system drive everything. New seller, then Level One, Level Two, Top Rated, each unlocking more gigs and more visibility. Progression depends on orders completed, on time delivery, response time and rating.

The algorithm favours recent activity. A gig with no orders for a month sinks, which is why the first orders are so difficult and so important.

Fees are twenty percent, which is higher than it first appears and must be in your pricing from the start rather than discovered afterwards.

The advantage: no connects, no bidding, no writing thirty proposals. Once a gig ranks it produces orders while you sleep, and that is genuinely different from application based freelancing.
