A five-page site that survives the week you are away

The situation

A school, a clinic or a shop you know has a Facebook page and nothing else. Build it a five-page WordPress site — live or on LocalWP — with a fast theme, the four-plugin baseline, a contact form that actually reaches an inbox, a tested backup, the security items checked, and a launch checklist run. Then write the offer you would send them, priced.

What you'll be able to show

  • Stand up WordPress and know what you now control: the name, the server, the software
  • Build a five-page structure a visitor reaches in two clicks
  • Keep a site alive: backup, security, speed — measured before and after
  • Turn the work into a priced offer for a real business

What you need

  • A cheap domain and starter hosting (under Rs 5,000 to start) OR LocalWP, free
  • A fast starter theme and the four plugins from lesson 4 (forms, backup, security, caching)
  • Six photographs of the business, or realistic stand-ins

Tasks

  1. 1Install, and say what you own
Install WordPress (live or LocalWP) and log into wp-admin. Write in your own words what you now control — the name, the server, the software — in three sentences you could say to a client.
A correct result: A working wp-admin and three sentences.
  2. 2Five pages, one menu
Create Home, About, Services (or Courses/Treatments), Gallery and Contact with real draft text. Build the primary menu in that order. Resize six images to web weight and name them meaningfully before uploading.
A correct result: Every page reachable in two clicks from Home; six images under 300 KB each with real names.
  3. 3Theme and the four plugins
Install and customise a fast starter theme (logo, colours, menu placement). Install forms, backup, security and caching plugins. Configure the contact form to send to a real inbox and submit a test. Delete every theme and plugin you are not using.
A correct result: A test form submission in the inbox; the plugin list is the theme plus four or five plugins.
  4. 4A backup you have tested
Schedule a weekly backup to Google Drive and run one manual backup now. Download it and confirm it contains both files and the database.
A correct result: A backup file on Drive with a database inside it.
  5. 5Security, five items
Change the admin username from admin, set a strong unique password, enable the login limiter, turn on automatic updates, and add an Editor account for the client. Record what the login limiter catches over the week.
A correct result: Five items done; the limiter's log for the week.
  6. 6Speed, measured
Measure the mobile PageSpeed score. Apply the three speed moves from the lesson. Measure again.
A correct result: Two scores, before and after, and the three moves listed.
  7. 7Launch checklist and the offer
Run the full launch checklist (including the search-engine visibility box). Then write the one-paragraph offer to the business: five named pages, timeline, price, domain in their name, a maintenance line.
A correct result: Every checklist item ticked, and an offer you could send tonight.

What to hand in

The site address (or LocalWP screenshots of all five pages), the form test, the backup proof, the security list and limiter log, the two speed scores, the ticked checklist, and the offer paragraph.
