What the 6 lessons cover
- What IELTS is and which one you need. Academic is for study, General Training for migration and work. Check your institution's exact requirement, including any minimum per module; Pakistani candidates usually score lowest in Writing and Speaking.
- Listening. Four sections played once in varied accents. Most marks are lost on spelling, numbers, word limits, losing your place and distractors; practise full sections without pausing.
- Reading. Sixty minutes and no transfer time. Skim for structure, scan for answers, master True/False/Not Given, watch synonyms and qualifiers, never leave a blank and always practise with a timer.
- Writing: the module that decides your band. Four published criteria. Task 1 reports the data with an overview; Task 2 is worth twice as much and needs a clear position. Essays improve only with feedback from someone who knows the criteria.
- Speaking. Three parts over eleven to fourteen minutes. Accent is not marked, intelligibility is; avoid one-word answers and memorised speeches, plan Part 2 around a story, and in Part 3 give an opinion, justify it and consider the other side.
- Preparing properly and booking. Start with a timed test, weight your hours to the weakest modules, get Writing and Speaking marked, book directly with British Council or IDP, and reject anyone guaranteeing a band.
