One product, from unit economics to a scorecard

The situation

Pick one product you could genuinely sell — something you can source locally this week. You will work out whether it makes money at Pakistan's real refusal rates, photograph and list it properly, set up measurement before spending a rupee, run one real order through your own operation, and decide on numbers whether to continue.

What you'll be able to show

  • Build unit economics with all seven cost lines and find the refusal rate that kills the product
  • Write a listing that answers a buyer's ten questions and one honest limitation
  • Measure every order by source from the first one
  • Judge a product on a scorecard, not on hope

What you need

  • Excel or Google Sheets
  • A phone camera and daylight
  • One product, one supplier price, and Daraz plus Instagram for comparison prices

Tasks

  1. 1Choose and cost the product
Write where you would source it, what it costs you, and what comparable items sell for on Daraz and on Instagram. Pick which of the three selling routes fits it and why.
A correct result: Source, cost, two comparison prices, one route with a reason.
  2. 2Unit economics at three refusal rates
Build the sheet with all seven cost lines and margin per order. Model it at 10%, 25% and 40% refusal (returned COD parcels). Find the refusal rate at which the product stops making money.
A correct result: A sheet where changing the refusal rate changes the margin, and one break-even refusal rate written down.
  3. 3Photograph and list it
Six photographs on a plain background in daylight, including scale and in-use. Write the listing: searchable title, description answering ten buyer questions, one honest limitation. Show it to somebody who has never seen the product and write down what they still do not know.
A correct result: Six photos, the listing, and the stranger's remaining questions — added to the listing.
  4. 4Measurement before money
Make the order sheet: one row per order with date, product, source (which ad, post or platform), price, delivery cost, accepted or refused, margin. Add the source question to your order script.
A correct result: An empty sheet with the eight columns, and the source question in the script.
  5. 5Operations, one page, and one real order
Write the seven-step order flow, your couriers and why, reorder levels, your reply-time commitment and your returns policy. Then run one real order through the whole flow — to yourself if necessary — and time each step.
A correct result: The one-pager and a timed log of one order start to finish.
  6. 6The scorecard and the decision
Fill the monthly scorecard's five numbers from your real or test orders. Write one honest paragraph: does this product make money at this refusal rate, and what must change to double it? Decide: continue, or choose a better product.
A correct result: Five numbers, one paragraph, one decision that follows from the numbers.

What to hand in

The unit-economics sheet, the six photos and listing, the order sheet, the operations one-pager with the timed order, and the scorecard with the decision.
